As we come into the second half of December, it’s time to gear up and get excited for the magical winter wonderland that Lake Chelan annually turns into. With a few inches of snow heading our way this weekend, we’re beginning to look forward to gliding along cool blankets of snow, sipping hot cups of cider by warm fires, and a plethora of activities for everyone at Lake Chelan resorts.
Lake Chelan offers a wide selection of winter activities including skiing and snowboarding, snow tubing, snowmobiling, sledding, and more. Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area, just nine miles from Chelan, features 25 miles (40km) of well-groomed terrain, and as of December 4, all trails have been flat-packed and ready to welcome you. The best part about Echo Ridge is its picturesque ridge top location, which not only provides scenic panoramic views of the Chelan Valley, but also positions you above any fog that may settle in. Say hello to bright blue skies and warm sunny rays!
Not only is the location perfect, but cheap prices make Echo Ridge affordable for the whole family. The daily rate for skiers 18 and over is only $10 per day, while 17 and under ski free! And if you’re not a skier, you can enjoy the beautiful snow-covered landscape fireside from the cozy Warming Hut.
If skiing and snowboarding isn’t your thing, Lake Chelan also plays home to fabulous snowmobiling and tubing. Rent a snowmobile and race through remarkable scenery along uncrowded trails, stopping at warming huts with wood stoves along your adventure. Or head to Echo Valley Ski & Tubing Area to slide down their powdery slopes for only $10 per day with children 5 and under tubing for free!
Looking forward to January, we’re anticipating another fabulous weekend during the annual Lake Chelan Winterfest Festival, coming to Manson January 22-24. Winterfest welcomes over 10,000 people each year to enjoy live music, food samplings, beer and cider tastings, twinkling lights, and dazzling ice sculptures. We’ll even buy your Winterfest button with a two night minimum stay!
Head to the Winterfest’s Alefest to sample from a selection of 50 unique craft beers and hard ciders, or attend the Bloody Mary Battle for unlimited samples of bloody mary’s and the chance to vote for Lake Chelan Valley’s best, while enjoying a light brunch. Looking to please the tastebuds even more? On Friday, January 22, eight of Manson’s best restaurants will also be serving small bites from their menu.
If you’ll have the kiddies with you, enjoy the more family-friendly events of the festival, such as the Smirk Comedy Show, which is acclaimed to be an entertaining mix of theatre, juggling, and timeless comedy. Or take the little ones to slide down the giant Winterfest Ice Slide, followed by a visit to Snowflake Lane, where they can get their face painted, make a super hero cape, or participate in a variety of other arts & crafts.
Of course you’ll also be wanting to keep your resolutions in the new year, so Winterfest will also feature some active events such as Snowga or the Showshoe race. Snowga will have you trekking through alpine trails stopping for yoga poses, hot yogi tea and beautiful views, while the Snowshoe race includes both a 5K and 10K run/walk along the mountain ridges overlooking Lake Chelan. Whether you want to run, walk, or just stroll and enjoy in the scenery, the Snowshoe race will be a perfect excuse to get outside with family or friends and soak in the enchanting alpine scenery.
